What are the Nazca Lines?

Peru - Nazca Lines - Hummingbird

First off I would like you to know that my computer screen got busted today while traveling to Machu Picchu. I tell you this so you will forgive typos and not to get sympathy. I mean I am about to hike one of the 7 new wonders of the world, so how much sympathy could I get.

Now on to Nazca! These lines were made by the Nazca civilization that lived in the desert valley from 200 BC to 600 AD. During that time different tribes marked out and dug lines and designs into the desert floor. Each shape or animal is roughly the size of a football field and 6 to 10 inches deep.

The best way to view them is to take a 35-40 minute flight in a small plane ($90 or so), because the drawings are spread all over the desert floor (do not come all this way and just look from the viewing tower becuase you can’t see hardly anything). This was the thing I was looking forward the 2nd most and i felt like it was well worth the efort and money to see them.
