Stopped by the Coast Guard

By May 2, 2010 No Comments

We got to Pine Island (near Ft Myers) on Monday and Chase showed up in a rented car on Tuesday so we took care of some errands.  On Wednesday Russ took the car back to the airport and flew home.  We took the boat about five miles west to Cayo Costa, which is a Florida state park.  It was a wonderful natural park with rustic cabins and lots of trails.  A friend I met in the BVI last year met us there with her grown niece and we had a great time.  We left on Saturday and headed south, but first we had lunch at Cabbage Key, which is a very popular boat accessible only restaurant.  There is a rumor that it was the inspiration for Jimmy Buffets’s Cheeseburger In Paradise, but it is not.  He did live aboard his boat near it when the song came out, so people assumed things.  We made it to Ft Myers beach, which was ok.  On Sunday we headed out for Naples and got boarded by the Coast Guard.  They did not like my European approved life jackets, so we had to go back and get new Coast Guard approved PFDs.  Aaron tell your buddies thanks.
