St Kitts is a long island sitting in a roughly southeast to northwest direction and the bay around the capital of Basseterre can get quite rough if the wind is anything south of due east. With this said, it is very nice to know that Port Zante Marina is available right in the middle of town on the side of the cruise ship pier.
Port Zante Marina is rather small and filled with local boats. Even though I could never get a hold of them by phone, e-mail, or website to make a reservation they found a way to accommodate my boat for a night and that was during a music festival that made the marina fuller than normal. They ended up having me raft to a monohaul and the hassle of having to walk across that boat was made easier by the $1 a foot I paid for the night.
With all that said, is Port Zante Marina my favorite marine? Of course not, but it was a convenient place to turn the boat around between two charters and the staff went out of their way to accommodate my boat and my needs (laundry, provisions, cleaning, etc). It is also a good place to have calm waters if the wind is making the anchorage around Basseteere bumpy. Although I do have a better anchorage I will write about next time, so make sure you come back tomorrow!!!!
