Christopher Columbus named the island of Nevis Santa Maria de las Nieves, which translates to Santa Maria of the Snow, because of the ever present cloud covering the top of the island.

I have been here several times and the cloud is always there. In fact, I have had to get over the idea of “lets wait until the rain comes from that cloud before we head ashore”, because it just sits there and continues to make you think it is about to rain. One of my guest decided the cloud was due to aliens. Haha

One day I looked up and there was no cloud and I was able to see what was always shrouded. Turns out the cloud sits in a valley and you actually see most of the hillside when it is present.

What do you think of this revelation? Are you with me and love the mountain being under cloud cover?
