Touring New Orleans

By March 7, 2010 No Comments

I have been working on the boat the last two weeks.  I had the yard I am staying at help me with an oil change (oil, filter, fuel filters, and impellers).  I also have been installing new bilge pumps to replace some that went out and other before they go out.  I got the final toilet pump rebuilt and now have a rebuilt spare.

I have also been touring New Orleans.  I went on a tour of Cemetery #1, which was very fun and well worth it.  I walked all over the French Quarter and saw the Cathedral, several famous bars, Jackson Square, and a riverboat.  I had beignets (a French donut) at Café Du Monde…three times and counting.  YUM!  My college roommate came into town with his family for a day and we went to the aquarium.

I rode the St Charles Streetcar (the oldest active streetcar in America) Uptown to Audubon Zoo (which I would have to say is one of the top zoos in the country).  I thought the Louisiana Swamp display was very well down showing everything southwest of New Orleans.

The place I am keeping the boat gave me tickets for the boat show at the Superdome, so I was able to get to see the inside of the Saints home field.  Before I went I had a poboy for dinner at Mother’s.  It was good.  Kind of like a combination of a sub sandwich and a French dip with a pickle relish, mustard, potato salad like concoction spread on the bread.
