The Space Coast & Goodbyes for Lennie

By November 21, 2010 No Comments

On Sunday we all slept in and relaxed until my dad and I went to church.  After that we walked around St Mary’s and Lennie found a washer and dryer in the ice cream store of all places (dad and I were in heaven).  Once the local bar opened we watched football.  The next morning we went to Cumberland Island, where the Carnegies, Rockefellers, and other tycoons built summer homes here in the late 1800’s.  Now it is owned by the National Parks Service and you can visit the islands to see the estate ruins and wildlife (the famous wild horses plus turkeys, armadillos, ect).  It was a great place and I would like to return next spring.  Once we got back to St Mary’s we went to the submarine museum and then back to the bar to watch Monday Night Football and I finished revamping the website (new layout, logo, and tabs – do you like it?).

On Tuesday we motored down the ICW to St Augustine because the wind was on the nose at 20+ knots and we needed to get to Cape Canaveral by the weekend.  We spent Wednesday visiting the old Spanish fort called Castillo de San Marcos.  We all like the history and architecture, but dad and I liked the live presentation on 1700’s Spanish military clothing the most.  Afterwards we went to the Fountain of Youth, which is the site of the original town and of course the fabled fountain.  We drank some, but I think I saw dad age a little instead of getting younger ;).  Of course on the way back we found a cupcake and ice cream store (Luli’s) that was great.  By this time I am dragging my dad to see the oldest school, the oldest house, and old town and he just wanted to go back to the boat for a nap.

On Thursday we went offshore and came back in at Ponce Inlet and took the ICW to Titusville, stopping for the night in Mosquito Lagoon (nice name, huh?).  I took dock space on Friday night because my new batteries were delivered.  I got six Lifeline 6 volt, 300 amp hour, AGM batteries.  My old ones were COMPLETELY done and these more than double my amp hours.

Saturday night Lennie had a friend pick him up so he could get back home for Thanksgiving.  He was great crew and I look forward to having him back aboard.
