Marigot Bay does not offer much and yet everything at the same time!

Marigot Bay - Sand Bar

So last week I wrote how much we enjoyed Rodney Bay at the north end of St Lucia. Well we finally started sailing south passing inside of Barrel of Beef rock (what a name!!!) and down to Castries (the capital). Looking into the bay it is obvious this is the capital as the bay looks quite industrious. There are a few anchorages in the bay and this is where the cruise ship comes in, but we just could not find any reason to sailing.

That meant we could continue our eight-mile sail under the jib to Marigot Bay. This long narrow bay has a reef on either side of the channel into the inner bay. Once you reach the inner bay you realize how well protected it is. The bay is lined with mangroves and the entrance is protected by a near perfect sand spit carrying a line of palm trees. You can tell this use to be a little backwater bay and even today it has the feel of a sleepy little cove with a marina on one side offering fuel, shopping, pool, restaurant, etc. Plus the sandy spit I mentioned is a perfect place to lounge away the afternoon and I bet the sunset from the bay looking through those palm trees is postcard perfect!!!!

There is plenty of places to anchor on the outside along the channel and reefs or you can pick up a mooring in the inner harbor ($20 US), but we chose a bay one mile south of here and were so happy with our choice. Check it out on Tuesday!!!!!!
