Maci sees a turtle

Hello everyone my name is Maci and if I’m going to be completely honest with you about my time here on captain Shane’s boat, I first need to tell you that I’ve never been sailing before and I was pretty scared. And as of today I can say that I have had the best time of my life on these four days of vacation than any of my past vacations, and I’ve been on many elaborate vacations, so that is saying a lot. The first day was like a blur, I didn’t know what was in store for me and I didn’t expect to have the time of my life. Captain Shane picked me, and my five other family members up right at the airport and we went straight to the boat and started on our adventure. We were quickly acclimated to the movements of the boat and once we had our safety lesson we jumped right in to snorkeling and we started to have fun. Our dinner was amazing every night and it was a nice change to not have to do the dishes, being 21 in my family doing dishes is a necessity, and we also had dessert every night. The second day was an absolute dream for me. First off I was scared to snorkel because there was a barracuda around us earlier but even after we moved to a new spot I was still skeptical and Captain Shane assured me that I would be fine and it was maybe the best decision that I have ever made. I SWAM WITH TURTLES! And I mean up close and personal, I held their fins and touched their shells. They came right up to me, as if saying “see, everyone told you that you would have a good time.” This is by far the best day of my life. After that I just soaked in as much as I could because I knew that if I never had this chance again that I would be able to recall all of the experiences that I just had. So long story short, if you have a chance to go sailing here in The Virgin Islands with Captain Shane, I would take it without hesitation. The views were so refreshing for my soul and spirit. It was exactly what I needed after a couple rough years, as if nothing bad had ever happened to me. I would recommend this trip to anyone looking for relaxation and adventure.

From Ron (the dad) – Pittsburgh, PA

I found the SV Guiding Light and Capt. Shane on Ebay of all places. I was looking for a catamaran experience for my family, and yet it was no easy task to find all of the criteria I was hoping for. I had only sailed briefly for one afternoon on a monohull in August 2011, and from then on I have been attempting to have a deeper exposure to sailing and specifically to catamaran sailing. Finding Capt. Shane on Ebay at first seemed too good to be true…. A man of integrity and strong character, sailing instruction if we wanted, snorkeling (including gear), meal prep and clean-up, a kayak and a beautiful 40’ Lagoon to enjoy… but we found out that sometimes the “product” does live up to the “brochure”! I felt very welcomed on the Guiding Light even though we had rules and safety concerns that were a comfort too. The looks of enjoyment on my wife’s face were mimicked by the kids as well (I say kids but they are 22, 21, 18 and 14). The meals he prepared were excellent and his flexibility around our snorkeling etc. was accommodating and genuine. My wife and I slept the final night on the trampoline! Perfect!!!!

I could go on and on about our experiences, but I’d rather leave some excitement to the imagination and your trip. I strongly recommend any adventure leg you can make with Capt. Shane. We will bring friends and other family members back next year.
