I am not that much of a baseball or a Chicago fan, but I do like history. A couple nights ago a friend pointed out that the last time the Chicago Cubs won the World Series the Ottoman Empire still existed. Since I had just come from Turkey that really illustrated how long ago 108 years was and I came up with a few other facts. So here we go. The last time the Chicago Cubs won the World Series….
-The Ottoman Empire still existed,
-World War I still had to be fought,
-and the Soviet Union would be formed, become a Super Power, and collapse.
-The Ford Model T had been produced for exactly 13 days.
-Man flew an airplane for the first time 5 years earlier
-and the first commercial flight had not happened.
-Neither the North or South Pole had not been reached yet.
-The first radio program broadcast was only made 2 years before
-and the first news program was 12 years away.
-The Hollywood film industry had not been established yet and
-the first Charlie Chaplin movie would come out 6 years later.
-There was no such thing as a Boy Scout.
-The upright portable vacuum cleaner was just invented.
-Wild West bandits Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid were still alive.
-The Titanic would not sail for 4 more years.
-Half the Major League Baseball teams had not formed yet,
-only 9 of the teams were in their current city,
-the American League was only 7 years old,
-and it was only the 5th World Series.
