The Honda 2000 portable generator is fantastic piece of equipment for cruisers. It provides power and battery charging capabilities in a small package and without the expense of a full marine generator. They usually are very robust and just keep on working, but….
Mine started having issues last June after over 3 years of dependable service. At first I had a shop clean the carburetor (the most common issue) for a $100, but that did not do it. Then I bought a new fuel pump and installed it for another $60. Finally I had to take it back to the shop and they replaced the carburetor for $400. That is over $500 to repair a machine I could have replaced with a new one for $1000.
Sometimes it just makes sense to buy a new one instead!!!!
