How did Guana Island in the BVI get its name?

Iguana head at Guana Island

Over on the east end of Tortola in the BVI you will find a group of islands. One of the islands is called Guana Island and is pretty famous for the snorkeling at Monkey Point and the beach at White Bay. White Bay beach is private as it is part of a small resort.

If you are here check out a rock formation sticking out on the point between White Bay and Muskmelon Bay. Supposedly this rock resembles an iguana head and is where the name Guana Island comes from.

What do you think? Can you see the Iguana in the rock?
