Another great hike on St John

Yawzi PointAs many of you know two thirds of St John in the US Virgin Islands is a national park (bought up and donated by Lawrence Rockefeller in the 1950’s) and is known for the many hiking trails around the island.

I don’t know much about this foundation, but I do like the stairs.

A great little hike that I did for the first is called Yawzi Trail. It separates Great Lameshur Bay from Little Lameshur Bay and goes all the way to the rocky point. You pick it up by either taking the dinghy to the dock in Great Lameshur Bay and walking inland until you find the trail head on the left or walk to the eastern end of the beach at Little Lameshur.

The peninsula is called Yawzi Point because people with yaws were required to live here. Yaws is an infectious tropical disease causing bone and skin lesions.

On the hike you will find the remains of a building, but I have not been able to gather much information on it. Plus when you are done you can cool off on the attractive Little Lameshur beach.

No a bad way to cool off after a little hike!!!
