Europe Travel Guide
Europe is the cradle of western civilization with the rise of Greek dominance. The classical age ended with the fall of the Roman Empire and Europe fell into the Dark Ages for 1000 years until the Renaissance in Italy in the 15th century. For the next 500 years the European nations controlled most of the Americas, Africa, Oceania, and Asia at various times, in a period called the Age of Discovery. During the 20th century both World Wars took some of the world dominance away as the United States and Soviet Union became World Powers. In 1958 the European Union was formed bringing various countries together for political and economic benefits.
I have been to Europe five times. My first time overseas was for a two-week driving tour through Great Britain in 2002, but that was well before this website. More recently I visited northern Italy, San Marino, and France in 2014; took a Hurtigruten cruise in Norway in 2015; spent a week and a half camping around Iceland in 2016, and in 2017 I toured southern Spain, Portugal, Andorra, Vatican City, and Rome.
