My plane, train, and automobile world tour

By July 28, 2016 4 Comments

Here it is in the morning and I still have things to do. Do I have a deadline to get them done by? You bet I do since I I have to head to the Denver International Airport at 2pm so I can catch my 5:20pm flight to Iceland. You see this flight will be the beginning of a two month long world tour that I am calling my “Plane, Train, & Automobile World Tour” where I will visit 6-7 countries and travel what I consider to be the 2nd most famous railways in the world.

This trip will start off with a 10 day road trip with my friend around the island of Iceland. We will be doing a lot of camping as we hike to see the different waterfalls, volcanoes, landscapes, and people of this nation that is just south of the Arctic Circle. We have a rough idea of what we want to see, but will mostly let the road and adventure dictate our schedule.

From there I fly to Istanbul via Copenhagen where I have a friend that is going to give me a tour around Europe’s largest city for 7 days. I hope to see Hagia Sopia, Blue Mosque, and Basilica Cistern to name a few sights. Plus I am looking forward to seeing this magnificent city, linking Europe and Asia together, from a locals point of view. I know several people are concerned with this location due to the recent attack and attempted coup, but it should be as safe as other locations and I can always not board the plane if it looks like it is a bad idea to visit at this time.

Next I will spend two weeks in the Holy Land exploring Israel, Jordan, and Palestine. My goal is to see many locations mentioned in the Bible. From the tomb or David to the site of the crucifixion of Jesus in Jerusalem. In the West Bank, also known as Palestine, I want to visit the birth place of Jesus, Jericho with the Dead Sea, and Hebron. From there I will travel to Galilee to visit sites of Jesus’s ministry and then cross into Jordan to understand this desert country with many small castles and beautiful nature. I will be ending my time here at Petra which is one of the new 7 Wonders Of The World.

This brings us to the halfway point of my travels where I will meet my father in St Petersburg, Russia. After we explore the sights of this city, Moscow, and Vladimir for a week and a half we are boarding the Tran-Siberian Train and taking it all the way to Mongolia. Here we will have a guided tour of this remote country for a week before boarding a new train to head back into Russia. We will spend a week in Irkutsk exploring Lake Baikal, the largest fresh water lake in the world, and flying to Yakutsk to see the Lena Pillar National Park.

We will then conclude the rest of the Trans-Siberian train by taking it to the Eastern terminus of Vladivostok and fly home.

My route around the world

I tell you all of this not to brag but hopefully to get you as excited as I am. I will of course blog about this trip extensively to help you experience it with me. My first blog will start coming out on August 14th in order to give me a two week start and hopefully enough of a lead that I will be able to keep the blogs, pictures, and videos  flow for your entertainment.

Will you be checking back each day to follow this amazing trip? I hope so.
