Leaving New Orleans

By April 4, 2010 No Comments

This week I left New Orleans.  I have Jim and Blieu from Missouri and Erin from New Orleans aboard.  Jim and Blieu are thinking about getting a Lagoon and wanted to spend a week or two aboard one.  Erin is 24 and seems to have been all over the world.  She is very intriguing, once you get her to feel comfortable and open up.

We got away a day and a half latter than hoped due to the impeller that was installed being bad and then a fuel leak.  The guys at Seabrook Marine were very helpful and got me underway as soon as they could.  If you ever need a space in New Orleans I would recommend them.  They are more of a boat yard than a marina, but it is a great place to get work done and the slip price was very nice.

Our first stop was West Ship Island with Fort Massachusetts, which is part of the “third system of coast defense”.  The island was very nice, but the water was too cold to go swimming and the fort was closed for preservation, so the island was a bit of a disappointment.

Next we sailed across Mobile Bay and had dinner at Lulu’s (Jimmy Buffet’s sister’s place) and I had the LA (Lower Alabama) Caviar (a black eyed pea and balsamic vinegar appetizer).  I really enjoyed it.  We left there at dusk and had to motor for an hour in the dark to our anchorage (we did not like doing that at night).

Today we are in Orange Beach hanging out and will travel three miles east and stay in Roberts Bayou.
