Happy Halloween

By November 7, 2010 No Comments

We left Manteo on Halloween morning and headed for Oakracoke, but the winds were a bit too much on the nose, so instead of a southwest route we went westward to a secluded bay on the inner bank and spent Halloween night with no trick-or-treaters.  I did get to carve a pumpkin though.

In the morning we sailed straight south for Oakracoke in 20-25 knot winds from the north and averaged over 8 knots of speed with the jib only.  Once we got anchored in the perfect little bay we went ashore and walked around this great town (I could spend a couple of weeks here).  Since it is a summer tourist town the place was not busy, at all.  I wanted my dad to be able to go across the inlet to Portsmouth (the ghost town I visited in July), but the ferry was not going for a few days due to the high winds and there is no protection for my boat over there.  So he will have to see it next time.

On Tuesday we finished sailing the outer banks (averaging 6 knots with the jib only).  We got back to the ICW and since the winds died off and shifted against us (plus it was rainy) we motored the next two days in order to get to Southport, NC.  Lennie had friends meet him on Friday and my friend Mark came out to visit my dad and I on Saturday and he brought Blue Bell ice cream.  Mark you rock.

I also found THE best prime rib ever at F!shy F!shy in Southport.  It was amazing.
