Anse du Colombier is my favorite anchorage in St Barts

How about this view?

As you approach St Barts from St Martin the first anchorage you come to is Anse du Colombier on the northwest corner of the island (Ile Fourchue is before this, but it is a separate island….we wrote about it last Thursday). For the most part this is a deserted cove, since the small community is built at the top of the hill. The only buildings are on the southern side. One is reputed to be the Rockefellers place and the other is either a strange house or some type of navigational aid.

This anchorage seems to have it all and was my favorite in St Barts. The best part is the amazing beach, which we probably spent over two hours just playing in the surf and on the sand. Walking from one end to the other is so relaxing.

What is this thing? haha

There are over a dozen free mooring balls available and they seem to be in great shape. This is great because it seems like this harbor has pretty good protection from the surge and wind. Also, you are only two miles from Gustvia (which I wrote about last Tuesday), so you can get to town if you need in your dinghy.

The snorkeling on the northern wall is only ok, but I am told it is fantastic around the islands off the southern point, but it was too rough for us when we were there. You can also take a hike from here along the north shore of St Barts.

All in all, this was a great last stop before we checked out of St Barts and headed to Barbuda. We will be writing about this undiscovered gem starting on Thursday, so make sure you come back.
